We’re bringing back one of our most popular sessions this Fall season: “Stylin’ School Shots”! (Sessions now through October 1st!)
This 30 minute on-location session is designed to bring the best smiles and personalities out of your kids by using natural light and a garden or park as a backdrop (instead of the same tired looking school backdrops and over-exaggerated forced smiles you can end up with when kids are part of an assembly line of “picture day” madness!) With multiple images to choose from, you can’t go wrong!
The Classic Collection- $150
30 minute session, two 5×7″ gift portraits, and one set of 8 wallet prints for $150.
(Add on to your session by ordering images or one of the collections below for your family and friends too!)
The Friend Collection – $275
30 minute session, plus $250 of print credits to use towards any combination of print sizes you would like to order.
The Family Collection – $300
30 minute session, one 11×14” wall portrait, one 8×10” gift portrait, two 5×7” gift portraits, two 4×6” gift portraits, and one set of eight wallet-size prints.

Choosing What To Wear For Your Portrait Session

One of the most frequently asked questions I receive from clients is “What should we wear?!”
Choosing what to wear for your session can sometimes make you feel like the world is on your shoulders, lol! While it is an important consideration that impacts the overall look and feel of your images, (second only to your choice of photographer, of course!) try not to stress too much over it. What we want to have shine through in your images is your personalities and connections with those that will be joining you in the session, and you with the camera. However, I do realize that even having said that… there are still a few pointers that I can give you. So here we go!
Whether you choose to dress up, make it more casual, or get outrageously funky, it is important that each family member feels good about themselves. To help each person feel comfortable going into a photo-session, think about what you feel most comfortable in. For instance, does your daughter prefer pants instead of dresses? Do you have a son that prefers to wear button down shirts that are untucked instead of having that shirt tucked in with a belt? The more comfortable and more “real” people are coming to the session, the more fun and relaxed everyone will be during the session…and that equals great images!
Appearing in the same image doesn’t mean you have to completely match, or wear the same outfits. While we’ve all seen the images of families together on a beach in a white shirt and khakis (and those images have their place), it can also be just as great to showcase your individual styles and personalities through the clothing you select.
When I had images created with my own family, I focused on trying to coordinate us without having us look too “match-y”. So what I would suggest is that if your daughter loves a blue and white dress, you may want to help your son choose a solid blue shirt that picks up the blue from her dress. From there you could then opt for a different shade of blue (or a complementary shade) for you, your husband, and so on.
The last suggestion I have today is to think about matching one another in terms of the formality and the style of the clothing (right down to the shoes!) This means making sure one person doesn’t show up in a tie and dress shirt while the kids wear jeans, T-shirts and sneakers. When thinking through this… think head-to-toe. Think about the shoes and even the socks that everyone will be wearing…little girls in cute little dresses look even better paired with a cute pair of sandals or bare feet vs. an older pair of sneakers. If the boys and men in your life will be wearing a dressier pair of pants and shoes, choose darker socks instead of white ones… you will thank me later! LOL! 
As I am writing this Blog post, I did a quick internet search for clothing ideas. I came across a site called Juice Kids Haute Couture that carries baby and children’s clothing that I thought was great for ideas and inspiration. There is also the ever popular Anthropologie store for women as well. For men, I’m a sucker for anything from Banana Republic. Hopefully these sites will get you started!

A big, HUGE thank you to all of the wonderful families that participated in our Miracles for Molly photo-fundraiser on Saturday! From a personal perspective, I felt that I was fulfilling my purpose when shooting these sessions. Knowing that I was directly affecting someone’s life… it was an amazing feeling. =)

Miracles for Molly Dunne – Fundraiser
Please join us in Hockessin on Saturday, June 4th, 2011 for special edition mini-portrait sessions to help raise much needed funds for six year old Molly Dunne and her family. All session fees ($50) will go directly to the Dunne family, along with a portion of all print sales. A special day deserves special pricing! For these sessions only, we’re offering exclusive print collection pricing for the fundraising event.
To give you some background information on Molly, she is a 6 year old girl who was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension and HHT (Osler Weber Rendu) after collapsing at her first day of Kindergarten. A day that should have been a happy memory for her and her family, changed their life forever. After months of hospitalization and intensive rehabilitation, she was able to come home last month! With each passing day, Molly continues to get stronger and is making great progress. We’re hoping to help her and her family get back on their feet as well by helping offset the costs of medical care and other needs.

The { K } Family

One of my favorite things about shooting at Gibraltar Gardens is seeing each family discover the beauty of it for the first time. The landscape makes for an awesome backdrop for the family, and then I just let them enjoy the time together! I have found this to be the best recipe for relaxed and candid-like images, like the one’s from this session. Enjoy!

More Baby Love!

Plenty of newborns to go around here lately, and I am not complaining one bit! I am so lucky to be able to cuddle little ones for a living! =)
Here are a few of my favorite shots from a newborn session this past weekend. Mom and Dad were so creative and a such a big part of the process… I loved the team work, and I think the shots are even better because of it!

Spring is on the way!

This family and I really lucked out with some gorgeously warm weather at Longwood Gardens! There are so many great spots to walk around and find outside (when the weather cooperates!) and if it’s a messy/cold day, the indoor space is always warm and in full bloom. Here is a mixture of the images taken that afternoon.
