Recent Session at Winterthur
Posted on July 15, 2011
One of my favorite things about being a photographer is all the great places that I get to visit. Winterthru is always gorgeous, no matter what season! I love that as I walk along the paths to the gardens there are plant/flower/tree tags showing the names and types. (Gives me ideas of what to plant at my home, lol!)
I thought I’d try something different today and post a video slideshow with some of my favorite images instead of just the images alone. What are your thoughts on this?
Enjoy!

Choosing What To Wear For Your Portrait Session
Posted on July 11, 2011
One of the most frequently asked questions I receive from clients is “What should we wear?!”
Choosing what to wear for your session can sometimes make you feel like the world is on your shoulders, lol! While it is an important consideration that impacts the overall look and feel of your images, (second only to your choice of photographer, of course!) try not to stress too much over it. What we want to have shine through in your images is your personalities and connections with those that will be joining you in the session, and you with the camera. However, I do realize that even having said that… there are still a few pointers that I can give you. So here we go!
Whether you choose to dress up, make it more casual, or get outrageously funky, it is important that each family member feels good about themselves. To help each person feel comfortable going into a photo-session, think about what you feel most comfortable in. For instance, does your daughter prefer pants instead of dresses? Do you have a son that prefers to wear button down shirts that are untucked instead of having that shirt tucked in with a belt? The more comfortable and more “real” people are coming to the session, the more fun and relaxed everyone will be during the session…and that equals great images!
Appearing in the same image doesn’t mean you have to completely match, or wear the same outfits. While we’ve all seen the images of families together on a beach in a white shirt and khakis (and those images have their place), it can also be just as great to showcase your individual styles and personalities through the clothing you select.
When I had images created with my own family, I focused on trying to coordinate us without having us look too “match-y”. So what I would suggest is that if your daughter loves a blue and white dress, you may want to help your son choose a solid blue shirt that picks up the blue from her dress. From there you could then opt for a different shade of blue (or a complementary shade) for you, your husband, and so on.
The last suggestion I have today is to think about matching one another in terms of the formality and the style of the clothing (right down to the shoes!) This means making sure one person doesn’t show up in a tie and dress shirt while the kids wear jeans, T-shirts and sneakers. When thinking through this… think head-to-toe. Think about the shoes and even the socks that everyone will be wearing…little girls in cute little dresses look even better paired with a cute pair of sandals or bare feet vs. an older pair of sneakers. If the boys and men in your life will be wearing a dressier pair of pants and shoes, choose darker socks instead of white ones… you will thank me later! LOL!
As I am writing this Blog post, I did a quick internet search for clothing ideas. I came across a site called Juice Kids Haute Couture that carries baby and children’s clothing that I thought was great for ideas and inspiration. There is also the ever popular Anthropologie store for women as well. For men, I’m a sucker for anything from Banana Republic. Hopefully these sites will get you started!
If you have any questions, or even suggestions on sites that you would suggest looking at for inspiration, please leave a comment or give me a call! Looking forward to working with you soon!

Congratulations to Jennifer and Greg! Their wedding was at Unionville Presbyterian Church, the reception was at the Mendenhall Inn, and all the fun wedding images with their wedding party were taken at Longwood Gardens between the two locations. =)
Talk to you all soon!

The { K } Family
Posted on March 24, 2011
One of my favorite things about shooting at Gibraltar Gardens is seeing each family discover the beauty of it for the first time. The landscape makes for an awesome backdrop for the family, and then I just let them enjoy the time together! I have found this to be the best recipe for relaxed and candid-like images, like the one’s from this session. Enjoy!

Spring is on the way!

This family and I really lucked out with some gorgeously warm weather at Longwood Gardens! There are so many great spots to walk around and find outside (when the weather cooperates!) and if it’s a messy/cold day, the indoor space is always warm and in full bloom. Here is a mixture of the images taken that afternoon.
Had a great time you guys! Thanks again, and talk to you soon!

I probably don’t need to explain how great it feels when an excellent and award-winning photographer asks you to take her family’s images, correct? I think it makes it even better when that photographer is also a friend! Here are some images that I took of the Barnak Family at Longwood Gardens this past season… enjoy!
Melissa and Tommy’s Engagement Session
Posted on November 11, 2010
These images were taken at Longwood Gardens this month. We totally lucked out with warm-ish weather! I love the colors Melissa and Tommy chose to wear… not only were the colors perfect, but their outfits were comfortable and reflected their personalities too. Keep an eye out for more of Melissa and Tommy next season, as I’ll be shooting their wedding images as well.
Thanks again, and see you guys soon!!

The {A} Family – Maternity and Family Session

How wonderful it is to see The Aber’s enjoying time together, and with a newborn on the way… I’m sure these moments are even more precious as they go from three to four! Sasha and Eric are the owners of Home Grown Cafe’, located on Main Street in the heart of Newark.
For those of you that may not have had a chance to experience Home Grown yet, I would highly recommend it! They offer very yummy vegetarian and vegan dishes, gourmet salads, and other fresh and creative dishes. Great casual dining, funky decor, and a great atmosphere to boot. But don’t just take my word for it… visit their website – www.homegrowncafe.com. =)
Thanks again guys! Talk to you soon!

Great Fall Session at Gibraltar Gardens!
Posted on October 27, 2010
The weather has really been great here lately, which makes it a lot easier for the little ones outdoors. And especially with this family… it allowed their boys to be boys! Lots of crawling, running and exploring that day. As you can see, they are also Steelers fans. Quick wardrobe change and the more formal session turned into a “let the boys run off some steam in the grass” session before everyone was too exhausted to go on. =)
Thanks again guys! More to come!
